In the words of Brittney, spoken after her first bite at lunch today, "I'm not gonna lie to you ... this is delicious." This one takes a little time, but it's completely worth it. You should see the pile of scraped-clean plates in my kitchen right now. The chicken pillows are light, airy and cheesy, surrounded by a satisfyingly crunchy crescent shell. There's nothing at all to either the gravy or the classic wedge salad (which is similar to Outback's). Even the balsamic reduction is so simple ... continue reading...

Corn Chowder
I debated and debated over whether to call this Corn Chowder or Frugal Soup. If it wasn't for the fact that our family has been calling it Corn Chowder forever, I might have changed it, because this batch turned into a big pot of "Use Whatever You Find in the Fridge and Freezer." I like when that happens. It all started a few weeks ago when I was experimenting with a Sticky Chicken recipe. I might post that when I work the kinks out. For now, it's not sticky enough. But we ate the chicken ... continue reading...
Easy Eclairs
My family is pretty nuts about cinnamon rolls. We have a tradition, which I accidentally began 25 years ago as a newlywed up in Bellingham, Washington. On the night of our first snowfall that year, I thought it might be nice to surprise Dave with a batch of cinnamon rolls. Then as now, he likes his with a giant glass of cold milk and a giant slab of butter melting itself into all those cinnamony folds. He ate ... oh, I don't know ... 11 of the 12 I made? But it didn't curb his desire. The next ... continue reading...
Crock Pot French Dip
This is absolutely no-fail and sure to please. It's one of those recipes you remember with relief when you need something hearty and beefy ... and something that practically makes itself. Crock Pot French Dip 3 1/2-4 lbs boneless chuck roast 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 big scoops beef Better-Than-Bouillon 1 bay leaf 1/2 tsp ground rosemary 1 tsp dried thyme 2 TBSP minced garlic 1 tsp pepper If you have extra time and want to go all out, sear all sides of your roast ... continue reading...
Cabbage Patch Soup
I've heard that a restaurant in Snohomish--named, oddly enough, the Cabbage Patch--first invented this soup. Could be. Otherwise, that's just a very weird coincidence. I've only been in that restaurant once and I didn't have the soup, so I can't be certain it's the exact same thing. I think my Aunt Barb first gave me the recipe, but that was a long, long time ago and I could be wrong. Anyway, this is a family favorite. No ... it's more than a favorite. It's the stuff that nearly single-handedly ... continue reading...
Herby Pull-Apart Bread
Love, love, love this bread. It's fluffy and buttery and herby and just plain wonderful. And it works every time. I made a batch last week to go with beef stroganoff and again yesterday to go with the butternut squash soup. You can get as creative as you like with the herbs--go crazy if you like. ;) Herby Pull-Apart Bread 2 cups boiling water 1 cup rolled oats 3 TBSP butter 1 egg 4 1/2 tsp yeast 1/4 cup sugar 1 tsp salt 3 3/4 -4 1/2 cups flour Herb ... continue reading...
