How to Make a Soft Book
On a previous post, How to Make an Action Figure Sleeping Bag I told you about Gage’s love for all-things-Iron Man. Add to that Spider Man, Thor, Wolverine, Captain America, and The Hulk. Not thinking, I accidentally left out a piece of the fabric I was using to make Iron Man’s sleeping bag. Gage spied it instantly, sucked in his breath, and said, “Grandma! Can I have that?” and for the next week, he carried that scrap of fabric everywhere he went. So I got an idea. I decided to go back to the fabric store (I actually ended up going to four) and get a few different Super Hero…

How to Make an Action Figure Sleeping Bag
So … my grandson loves Iron Man. I would prefer him to still be content with Mickey and Minnie, but he’s moved on, and in a big way. Almost every day, he asks, “Can we go to Target and look at Iron Man?” This, while clutching his big and little Tony figures, and wearing the Iron Man sweatshirt his Aunt Tera gave him for his birthday … where he ate a Marvel comics birthday cake under Marvel comic banners and posters. Surrounded by super hero gifts of all shapes and sizes. The boy has it bad. I have my limits. We don’t watch the movie when he’s here (way too…

Welcome Home, Sailor!
Recently, our church’s women’s ministry had an opportunity to join Shawn and Becky Schrader’s Military Ministry in making quilts for all the babies born while their fathers were deployed on the USS Shoup, USS Momsen, and USS Lincoln. After the wild quilting whirlwind (we only found out about 10 days before the Momsen and Lincoln came home), I got a chance to go down to the pier at Naval Station Everett and help hand out quilts to the new moms. I don’t have words to describe how emotional this day was for me. We arrived at 6:15 a.m., met with Chaplain Jeff, and drove our quilts to the pier, where…

Welcome Home Blankets
I just got word of a great ministry opportunity … but it’s coming up quickly. We’ve been offered a chance to make blankets for all the babies that were born during the deployment of three ships from Naval Station Everett. The sailors are coming home at the end of the month, and we’ll be giving blankets to the families with new babies at the Welcome Home ceremony. If you sew, knit or crochet — and would like to help — we need 45″ x 45″ baby blankets. They can be quilted, crocheted, knitted, or sewn from fleece, flannel, silk … anything baby-worthy. You can even buy blankets if you don’t…

Maggie’s Cape
After having two adorable boys, my friend, Kim, finally had her girl. Her boys are really so delightful that I wouldn’t have minded a third Underwood boy, but I know Kim had her heart set on a child who could wear pink, so I (we) were very happy for her when Maggie arrived. I couldn’t decide what to make for her … something knitted, or something sewn? After looking through a ton of knitting patterns, I went to JoAnne’s and sat for an hour looking through sewing patterns. The moment I saw this one, I knew Maggie needed a cape. I love this fleece. Not only is it very cuddly,…

Those Christmas Stockings
Guess what? Only 360 days till Christmas! Anybody out there ready? No? 🙂 I’ve had some requests to share the pattern for the Christmas stockings I posted on Facebook. And I planned to do that — to just tell you the name of the pattern and maybe post a picture or two. But it seems there’s not one mention on my pattern, anywhere, of the name or copyright of the thing. And I’ve had it for 25 years. So … with my apologies to the pattern creator, I’ll have to show-and-tell you how to make them. I made my first pair of these in 1985, the year Dave and I…
