So here’s how I feel about the “P” word: I love/hate Pinterest. I love all the beautiful pictures; hate that I can’t possibly do/try/make/copy everything I pin. Love how it spurs my imagination; hate how it steals my hours. Anybody else?
I have a ten-mile list of things I really, really want to make off of Pinterest. Today I got to cross one off my list, all thanks to serendipity.
Dave had made our usual green smoothie early this morning, but left the orange peels in a polite pile next to the sink. As I was scooping them up to throw out, I thought, No … I’ll simmer them in a little pot with some cinnamon and clove. And then as I was holding one of the bigger peels in my hand, I remembered how I used to cut them in heart shapes to dry for potpourri. So then I thought, I’ll probably be the only one who realizes the peels in that pot are adorable hearts, but that’s okay. The thing is, I couldn’t find my very cute, very tiny heart cookie cutter, but I DID find my equally cute, equally tiny star cutter — the one I use when I’m making homemade croutons. I’ll post that recipe later.
So the orange-peel cutting began. And I thought they were so share-worthy that I had to Instagram them. And that’s when my friend, Briana, commented, “Have you tried infusing vinegar with orange peels for cleaning? I have been meaning to try it but now all I can think of is a mason jar full or vinegar and star shaped orange peels. Lovely.”
Have I tried that? No, but just give me five minutes!! Because that homemade cleaning recipe was a big “TRY THIS” on my Pinterest list. The vinegar, I mean. The stars just make it all the more “a-peel-ing.” I know. Forgive me. 🙂
So the orange peels never made it to the pot. But they’re in a squatty mason jar in my kitchen window this minute, soaking up the sun and infusing that jarful of vinegar. I’ll let you know how the cleaning goes.
I guess I thought they would obey me if I lined them up all nice and orderly …
… but no. They insisted on floating.
But I’m over it.

Waiting to hear how it performs as a cleaning potion! I saw this on Pinterest, too, and it gave me pause…
I feel the same way as your opening statements. In fact, I have been trying to figure out a solution, like should I print off my “pins” of projects that I’d like to try someday? I asked my BFF if she wanted to start scheduling time together to do a pin from one of our boards, just so we could actually complete one, instead of just building up our board of “here’s another great idea that I wish I would try one day, but alas…”
Keep us posted!
God bless you,
Julie

Thanks, Julie! I’ve been meaning to try it for cleaning, but it’s just so pretty sitting in the jar that I haven’t touched it yet. If I can bring myself to use it, I’ll let you know. 🙂
Love your idea about doing scheduling pin-days with a friend! That’s brilliant. You’ll have to report your findings to the rest of us. 🙂
God bless you too!
