    Care-Package Worthy Granola Bars

First off, how pretty are granola bars wrapped in parchment paper and twine? It’s not necessary. It’s not really practical, either, because, what? The center of the granola bar is the only part worth protecting? However … just the sight of that wrap makes me happy. So I was sitting with my friend, Cindy, at Starbucks awhile back, and she mentioned that she had just made and sent a care package of these granola bars to her son in the military, at his request. I thought, If granola bars are THE thing your son wants in his care package, then I have to have that recipe.” I said that to her.…

    Banilla Bliss

I’m supposed to be on the strictest of diets. I say “supposed to be” because I’m there about 80% of the time. But then we get invited to someone’s house for dinner, or we’re out all day and discover we’re starving and there’s nothing good in sight, or I’m teaching Tera how to make brownies and, well, you don’t want me to send her brownies to church un-taste-tested, do you? In an effort to discover why my body is in a constant state of inflammation, I’m attempting an elimination diet. To that end,  I’m trying to cut out gluten, dairy, sugar, corn, nightshade plants (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, chili peppers), and…

    Easy Iced Coffee Drinks

Two trips to Paris in four months … can you say, “spoiled rotten?” I am. I know it full well. And yep, I’m headed to Paris in the morning. But this time, I won’t need an interpreter when I teach. That’s because this time, I’m heading to the other Paris … the one in Texas. 😀 I’m very excited to see my fiends — the mother/daughter duo of Pat Apple and Christy Duff. Pat is the pastor’s wife from Calvary Chapel Tel Aviv, just here for a quick visit before she heads back to Israel. I can’t wait to sit down with her and talk through the details of the…

The Healthiest Chocolate Shake You Will Ever Have

I’ve been reading like crazy lately. Wheat Belly. The Anti-Inflammation Diet. The Anti-Inflammation Zone. The Candida Diet. The Mucous-less Diet. The Gluten-Free Diet. All that, plus about eight others whose names I can’t remember at the moment, and I’m not home to run and check. (I’m writing this while waiting in my dermatologist’s office. Yay for The WordPress app for iPhone!) Anyway, all that reading is getting through. Things are changing in our house — not with reluctance, but with excitement. Dave and I are looking forward to more energy, less prescription bottles, and better sleep. I hope you’re up to tagging along via my posts here, because everything I’m…

    Snowy Day Cocoa

It’s heeeeerrrrreeee! I’ve been waiting all day for the blizzard that just made its appearance. And according to my friend, Cathy, our storm tonight has the potential for “thunder snow,” whatever that means. I think it means we might have thunder … and snow. Pretty good deduction, huh? 🙂 When it snows like this, you just have to make cocoa. And I don’t mean the kind made in a factory and stuck in a foily packet. This is the real stuff. And once you try it, and see how easy it is, you’ll scoff at the other kind. I actually have several really good recipes for cocoa. So here’s the…

Homemade Marshmallow Fondant That is Actually Delicious

I have never met a fondant I liked until I found this recipe for homemade marshmallow fondant (thanks Taryn!) I was so glad to find this, because regular fondant is … well,  dee-scusting. You don’t want that stuff in your mouth. This recipe, however, is delicious. But I’m going to be really honest with you: it’s probably the messiest thing you’ll ever attempt in the kitchen. Or maybe that’s just me. I made these cupcakes for my daughter-in-law’s baby shower. Yes, I’m going to be a grandmother! It still hasn’t quite sunk in, but I’m getting more excited by the day. We’re having a boy, and his name will be…
