I don't know what it is about meatloaf. It seems there's not a neutral person on earth when the word is brought up. You either get a big smiley "Mmm" or a scowl and a grunt. We all love meatloaf at our house. It's just one of those comfort foods that you hope will be waiting for you on blustery fall days when you've fought traffic all the way home and your tummy is growling. Everyone perks up at our house when you mention the word "meatloaf." More often than not, I serve it alongside creamy, ... continue reading...

I I've mentioned my other blog before, but I'm not sure I've mentioned that I'm trying to slowly move all those posts over to this blog. I have this secret fear that I'll pop over there one day and blogger will have just deleted the whole thing. Maybe an unrealistic fear, but I'm still going to unl oad all the cargo I can just in case the boat actually sinks without warning. Since I'm out of town this week, and attending our annual Calvary Chapel Pastors' Wives Retreat at the Murrieta Hot ... continue reading...
Memories of Buchenwald
I've had the hardest time publishing this post. I was blogging at Wind Scraps when we took this trip to Germany, and though I wrote about every other thing we did and saw there, and I even wrote this post itself, I couldn't bring myself to hit "publish." Then, when I started Twig and Feather and began to transfer my Wind Scraps posts here, I published every other post about Germany except this one. I was up at 4 a.m. this morning and began going through some of my old drafts to see what needed ... continue reading...
Mossyback Farm
On this gray, chilly day (yay, yay, yay!), with fall just days away, I thought I'd take a moment to look back at the summer of 2012. I think I took about 1600 pictures this summer, so choosing a few to highlight will be difficult. This might have to be two posts. I'll just devote this first one to the morning I spent at Mossyback Farm, my very favorite farmer's market about 20 minutes north of my house. When you're trying to eat clean, you start spending a lot of time at farmer's markets. I can ... continue reading...
Those Licorice Caramels
I'm about to divulge my secret recipe ... the one that has men fighting over the gallon-sized baggie holding these little treasures, and women hinting that they could eat another, and children sneaking their hands up over the counter and grabbing another gooey handful. Yes. It's my licorice caramel recipe. I've had it forever. I started making it about three minutes after I found it. For the life of me, I can't remember where I got it, and I'm sorry for that. I would love to give credit where ... continue reading...
The Beez Neez
We went queen-shopping last month down at the local bee supply store. That's where you go when you're in need of a queen, don't you know. Picked us up a nice little Italian queen whom we promptly named Luccia. What ... did you want us to call her Mitzi? We've been beekeepers for about seven years now. Maybe eight. It all started when I got rear-ended up on Highway 9, two minutes from home, on a rainy afternoon when the girl behind the truck behind me forgot how to brake. Her explanation for ... continue reading...
