Does everyone else love Trader Joe's as much as I do? The closest one to me is in Everett, which isn't far if you're a crow, but if you're just a woman with a car, and you're heading there from Marysville and having to fight all that hideous traffic, it can easily take a half an hour to get there. But I do it. TJ's is a worthy destination. If they ever put one in Marysville, I wouldn't have a reason to ever leave town again. I made the trek last week to pick up a few things for a luncheon I ... continue reading...

Chunky Chocolate Bread Pudding w/White Chocolate Brandy Sauce
Does it get any better than this? I don't think so. I wish I could invent a little sampler button that would pop out tiny bites of this for you. A scratch 'n sniff wouldn't hurt either. I planned to make this for a luncheon yesterday, but that fell through for a truly wonderful reason: my friend's daughter-in-law went into labor. MUCH more important than lunch. So then I thought I'd make it tonight for dessert before we headed out with some friends to hear a band. But that fell through too ... continue reading...
Ah … Aji!
Two or three times a year, I head down to Orange County to conduct interviews, say hi to friends, and drop in at the publishing company I write and edit for. (I know. Technically, that should be, "for whom I write and edit." But this is a blog and not a manuscript, right?) It doesn't matter how long or how short my visit, I never leave without first stopping by Inca Grill, a Peruvian restaurant my good friends, Mark and Cathy Rich, introduced me to a long while back. The food is good. But I'm ... continue reading...
That Spring Cleaning Bug
Am I the only person who catches the spring cleaning bug about six minutes after the Christmas tree is gone? I seriously turn into a dust cloth-clutching Tasmanian devil this time every year. Add to that the fact that I've still got that nesting thing going on since the birth of my grandson, and I've got quite the cleaning urge. Let's just say that if you were a knickknack in my house right now, your little ceramic legs would be shaking. I started this year by filling and dropping off about ten ... continue reading...
Spices and Gadgets
Oh, I love these! I really, really love these. I found them at World Market in Lynnwood (for those of you in the area). Actually, I've seen them a bunch of places, but always at $2.99 each. And I've thought about buying them every time I've come across them, because my spice cabinet is absolutely out of control, and I literally grit my teeth sometimes when I have to remove fifteen spices just to get to one stuck way in the back. So when I saw them this week for $1.99 each, I bought 10. And then ... continue reading...
Banana Bread and Roses
Nice combo, don't you think? Banana bread and roses ... really, twelve of the most beautiful roses I've seen in forever. Tera brought them home from school. They were presented to her at an assembly when she was brought forward and introduced as the junior track captain for this year. The way she earned that position is a great story. She had to run a mile in under 6.20 minutes, and she had gotten close a couple of times, but couldn't seem to get under 6.21. But one cold, rainy day last month ... continue reading...
