After having two adorable boys, my friend, Kim, finally had her girl. Her boys are really so delightful that I wouldn't have minded a third Underwood boy, but I know Kim had her heart set on a child who could wear pink, so I (we) were very happy for her when Maggie arrived. I couldn't decide what to make for her ... something knitted, or something sewn? After looking through a ton of knitting patterns, I went to JoAnne's and sat for an hour looking through sewing patterns. The moment I saw ... continue reading...

Still sick. Still on the couch ... and feeling incredibly unproductive. Hope to be back in the saddle very soon, but in the meantime, here's something I wrote several years back. This morning, a group from our church is leaving for Mexico. Once there, they’ll cuddle babies in an orphanage and paint the walls of a run-down school. They’ll practice their shaky Spanish with strangers on dusty streets and share the gospel through bits of sentences and songs and drama. And I won’t be with ... continue reading...
Comfort Food Classic: Split Pea Soup
I've been absent all week ... too sick to even get online. That's pretty sick, huh? My first doctor said it was pneumonia and my second said it was bronchitis. Whatever. All I know is that it's been a long week of sitting around in my jammies memorizing the line-up on PBS's "Create" channel. I like to refer to it as "the poor woman's Food Network." We live way too far in the woods to get cable, and because of all the trees to our south, we have been informed by three companies that we can't pick ... continue reading...
Crock Pot French Dip
This is absolutely no-fail and sure to please. It's one of those recipes you remember with relief when you need something hearty and beefy ... and something that practically makes itself. Crock Pot French Dip 3 1/2-4 lbs boneless chuck roast 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 big scoops beef Better-Than-Bouillon 1 bay leaf 1/2 tsp ground rosemary 1 tsp dried thyme 2 TBSP minced garlic 1 tsp pepper If you have extra time and want to go all out, sear all sides of your roast ... continue reading...

My friend, Mary, told me this story about her grandson a few weeks ago. It's stayed with me ever since, and I have a feeling I'll be thinking about it long after Christmas is over. It's one of those "out of the mouths of babes" truths that seems all the more true because of the innocence that speaks it. Mary and her daughter, Aimee, had just finished decorating the house for Christmas when they heard that five-year old Aden (Mary's grandson), was on his way over. "He's going to go straight to ... continue reading...
Spiral Ham and Scalloped Potatoes (AKA Potatoes au Gratin)
Happy Sunday, everyone! We had another really beautiful day at church ... incredibly inspiring message (thanks, Dave!), lots of new people, a few faces I hadn't seen in awhile, one in particular that was very dear to my heart (daughter-ish, even). Being that my husband is the pastor, Sundays tend to be long days for us. Tera was on the worship team this morning, which meant that I had to have her there around 7:35, and we had a ministry leaders' meeting scheduled for 1:00, right after the second ... continue reading...
