This is absolutely no-fail and sure to please. It's one of those recipes you remember with relief when you need something hearty and beefy ... and something that practically makes itself. Crock Pot French Dip 3 1/2-4 lbs boneless chuck roast 1/2 cup soy sauce 2 big scoops beef Better-Than-Bouillon 1 bay leaf 1/2 tsp ground rosemary 1 tsp dried thyme 2 TBSP minced garlic 1 tsp pepper If you have extra time and want to go all out, sear all sides of your roast ... continue reading...

Restaurant Review: The Counter
Yay for Christmas shopping! Well, I should say, 'Yay for a whole day away with Dave!' We really did need to get in some last-minute shopping, but what I looked forward to the most was just hanging out with him. I've been buying a few deals the last couple of months through Living Social and Groupon. If you don't know about those, google those names when you have a minute. You just sign-up and customize your location, and then you get a daily deal offer emailed to you. I've mostly bought food ... continue reading...
Spaghetti Sauce
I'm off to meet two friends for coffee, knitting, catching-up, laughing, and lunch. But before I head out, I'm starting a pot of spaghetti sauce in the crock pot, full of big, tender meatballs from the batch I made last week. Here's a post I wrote a few summers ago on my other blog, Wind Scraps, that explains why I love to cook so much: When I grab my one and only Longaberger basket--the one with the frilly blue liner I made myself because I was too frugal to buy theirs, overlaid with the ... continue reading...
Cabbage Patch Soup
I've heard that a restaurant in Snohomish--named, oddly enough, the Cabbage Patch--first invented this soup. Could be. Otherwise, that's just a very weird coincidence. I've only been in that restaurant once and I didn't have the soup, so I can't be certain it's the exact same thing. I think my Aunt Barb first gave me the recipe, but that was a long, long time ago and I could be wrong. Anyway, this is a family favorite. No ... it's more than a favorite. It's the stuff that nearly single-handedly ... continue reading...
Herby Pull-Apart Bread
Love, love, love this bread. It's fluffy and buttery and herby and just plain wonderful. And it works every time. I made a batch last week to go with beef stroganoff and again yesterday to go with the butternut squash soup. You can get as creative as you like with the herbs--go crazy if you like. ;) Herby Pull-Apart Bread 2 cups boiling water 1 cup rolled oats 3 TBSP butter 1 egg 4 1/2 tsp yeast 1/4 cup sugar 1 tsp salt 3 3/4 -4 1/2 cups flour Herb ... continue reading...
Butternut Squash Soup
I was at my favorite store last week--Trader Joes, of course--and found this beautiful butternut squash just sitting in a basket outside the front door waiting for me to pick it up. So I did. And since today felt like a good soup day, that's what I made. Butternut Squash Soup one good-sized butternut squash chicken or beef broth--about 4 cups 1/2 onion, chopped 4 cloves garlic olive oil--enough for sauteing 4 TBSP butter 8-12 oz cream cheese and/or half-n-half ... continue reading...
