Two posts today. That's because the cold that's been hovering over me the past two days, making me tired, lethargic and very un-motivated, finally settled in my throat. I was so sleepy when we came home from church that I took a two-hour nap, and when I woke up, swallowing had become a miserable activity. But I know a sure-fire remedy. This simple tea is a life-saver when you're suffering from a sore throat. I discovered this recipe years back when a similarly miserable cold made me wince every ... continue reading...

Butternut Squash Soup
I was at my favorite store last week--Trader Joes, of course--and found this beautiful butternut squash just sitting in a basket outside the front door waiting for me to pick it up. So I did. And since today felt like a good soup day, that's what I made. Butternut Squash Soup one good-sized butternut squash chicken or beef broth--about 4 cups 1/2 onion, chopped 4 cloves garlic olive oil--enough for sauteing 4 TBSP butter 8-12 oz cream cheese and/or half-n-half ... continue reading...
Black-Bottom Cupcakes
We got our Christmas tree last Friday! Yes, you heard that right. Friday, as in, "the day after Thanksgiving." We've done this for several years now because the place where we go to cut it down is only open (for sure) on that weekend. It's run by two older couples who keep it open only as long as they feel like it, which is usually one weekend and once in awhile two. It's the only U-Cut place around here that still has trees as tall as we like them. I think ours is about 12' tall this year. In ... continue reading...
Let It Snow!
Like my snow app? I couldn't help myself. :) I figured, even if it isn't snowing outside, I can have a little on my site. Every year I hope for a blizzard. Well, actually, what I hope is that a whole bunch of friends just happen to drop by for a visit, and none of us have heard the weather report and none of us notice the blizzard that suddenly strikes until it's far, far too late for anyone to escape ... er, leave ... and so we have to all make the best of it, which means cocoa and ... continue reading...
That Laundry Soap
I'm calling this post "That Laundry Soap," because after I mentioned on Facebook that I was making a batch of homemade laundry soap about a year ago, I was forever after asked by people, "Are you the one who makes that laundry soap?" Why, yes I am! :) But I'm not alone. A ton of people are making this laundry soap. I can't speak for why the rest of them are doing it, but I do it because I can make a 5 gallon bucket of laundry soap for less than $2 and it lasts me for just over 6 months. Crazy, ... continue reading...
Mmmeatballs!
I am in the strangest mood. You would think that we're about to set out on a six-month journey and I have only two days in which to cook all the food we're going to need on the trail. Every time I take one dish out of the oven, I pop in another. I think I know what is the cause of all this. His name is Gage, and he's about the most perfect baby you've ever laid eyes on. He's my son's first child, and my first grandchild, and I can barely stand to hand him off to the next person waiting in ... continue reading...
