Okay, maybe that was too harsh. I don't actually think Campbell's uses fake tomatoes in their soup. But neither do I believe they walk out behind the factory with little fabric-lined baskets and lovingly select and then hand-pick only the best and ripest tomatoes in the patch for their soup. I think a giant truck backs up to the factory door and dumps half-ripe, chemically sprayed tomatoes from who knows where onto a very cold and neutral conveyor belt. I like my way better. And yes, I do ... continue reading...

Seeds
I woke this morning with a basket full of seeds and a head full of plans for where I'd plant them all. Sunflowers on the west side of my kitchen garden. Corn, peas, zucchini, squash and pickling cucumbers to the left of the greenhouse. Shasta Daisies to the right of my brick path, in the spot the cats have claimed for their own. Maybe if a thick cluster of daisies grew there, they'd stop rolling in my dirt. I saw myself pulling back the earth, and plunking those hope-filled seeds ... just as I ... continue reading...

I've been to Israel three times, and I'm longing for a fourth ... and a fifth. To tell you the truth, I would move there in one heartbeat if the opportunity ever presented itself. I love the people, the land, the sights and sounds and smells. I love standing on ground that hosted the most vital scenes in all of history -- events that changed the world, and changed me. So many visions linger in my mind: the quiet shore on the Sea of Galilee, where I sat with my Bible early one morning; a ... continue reading...
Enrage Me
“ I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know wickedness. The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, him I will not endure.” ~ Psalm 101:3-4,8 (NKJ) Five of the eight men accused of murdering my young friend shuffle into the courtroom. I am in my usual place, sitting next to Rachel’s mother, third row from the front. Dead center. The bailiffs won’t permit us to sit any closer to the defendants. I’ve lost count ... continue reading...
How to Make a Rainbow Rice Bin
When my daughter, Tera, was a little girl, she had a boatload of Barbies in her castle-themed bedroom, and a pink Barbie jeep. She also had several big, expensive porcelain dolls -- all gifts from her grandmother. She had a growing collection of Build-A-Bears, including a cat, a poodle and a bunny. She had real live goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats outside ... along with 12 1/2 acres of trees for climbing and fort-building. She had her own glue gun, and a teetering, ... continue reading...
Spicy Vegan Slaw
It's Meatless Monday!!! And today, we have my new favorite side dish: Spicy Vegan Slaw. Now, don't get your knickers in a twist over that middle word in the title. It's just five little letters. Try it out: say "vegan." Say it slowly. See? You lived! There was a time when I wrinkled my nose at those letters too. And sort of grimaced. But then there was the time about a week and a half ago when I heard my friend, Lynette, say the word, and heard it in the same sentence with, "My vegan diet ... continue reading...
