I had looked forward to the day after Christmas for a couple of reasons. First, the 26th of December loomed as the first day of a much needed rest. It meant the shedding of several great weights: I'd be finished with a lengthy academic book edit and the writing of that book's study guide (the deadline of which coincided with Christmas Eve). I'd be finished with the transcription of another book. I'd have set my needle and thread aside, because the three sheep costumes I had offered to make would ... continue reading...

Beautiful Day (Part 1)
There's talk that Seattle is going to get a basketball team again (sorry to all you fans in Sacramento). And I've heard that if/when the team comes up, they'll play in Key Arena for a while until another stadium can be built. That news brought back all sorts of memories, which I thought I'd share here. From January, 2006: A week ago Monday, I experienced a day so perfect, so beautiful, that right in the middle of my bliss I snatched the nearest napkin and scribbled swift notes as fast as I ... continue reading...
Chocolate Graham Cracker Eclair Cake
Happy almost new year! I'm spending today working on a book edit before heading down to church to ring in the new year with our church family. The organizers this year have established a Hawaiian theme for our party. Wonder if I still have time to make a grass skirt ... (as if!) Today's recipe has nothing to do with tonight (I'm using tonight as an excuse to rid my house of all the leftover cookies and candies we don't need), but it did make an appearance at my sister's house Christmas night. ... continue reading...
Crock Pot Chicken Santa Fe … So Easy, So Good!
So I'm trying to be good. Good as in, "I will use up every bit of whatever I buy, open, and stick in the fridge." It's been a thing with me -- but just with weird stuff. For instance, I'll buy some new curry sauce at Trader Joe's, use half of it for dinner that night, and stick the second half in the fridge, where it does the slow dance to the back along with all the other archaeological relics. But no more. Today, I turn over a new leaf. And it begins with that can of chipotle in adobo that I ... continue reading...
What To Do With All Those Thanksgiving Leftovers
Happy Saturday after Thanksgiving! (Otherwise known as, "What on earth am I going to do with all these leftovers?" Day). I assume you have a fridge full of stuffing, turkey, gravy ... probably not gravy. That's usually the first thing to go. This year, we have TWO kinds of stuffing in the fridge. That's because our friends, Jay and Kathy, brought their amazing cranberry and sausage stuffing, and I made my usual batch for Dave, who doesn't eat cranberries if he can help it. We are leaving ... continue reading...
Whiplash, Macaroons, and The Sacred Romance
We're leaving Tahoe in the morning and heading to the Oregon Coast. I can hardly believe I get to be in both places on the same trip. Here's a memory from another visit. I'll be sitting on that same bench soon. How's that for a post title? Sometimes, when you're about to embark on an explanation of a lot of disconnected information, you have to state the obvious. So there you go. Last Thursday, while minding my own business, I was involved in a car accident up on Hwy 9. (For those of you who ... continue reading...
