It's over. The big turkey platter is back in the dark recesses of the cupboard, where it will remain for another 359 days. The leftovers are gone. The stretch pants? Well, they might still be on you, depending on how involved you were in the disposing of all those Thanksgiving leftovers. So you might be in need of a healthy recipe at this point. And have I got a salad for you! It's my new addiction. If you put a bowl of this in front of me alongside, say, a Rib Eye steak, I'm pretty sure I'd ... continue reading...

When You Need a Honey Jar Replacement
Flu. If that word is heard instead of read, you might think we're about to discuss a bird in flight, or an airplane taking you on vacation, or time passing by while you enjoy yourself immensely on that vacation. Not even close. I came down with the flu Wednesday, right about the time church was about to start. I had to come home, which means I missed out on our KRoc kids leading worship. :( Three days later, I'm still not over it, and I've now coughed the calorie equivalent of six 2-hour Zumba ... continue reading...
Banilla Bliss
I'm supposed to be on the strictest of diets. I say "supposed to be" because I'm there about 80% of the time. But then we get invited to someone's house for dinner, or we're out all day and discover we're starving and there's nothing good in sight, or I'm teaching Tera how to make brownies and, well, you don't want me to send her brownies to church un-taste-tested, do you? In an effort to discover why my body is in a constant state of inflammation, I'm attempting an elimination diet. To that ... continue reading...
Zuppa Toscana
What a great day for Home Skills Fellowship! Perfectly sunny, perfectly warm ... well, maybe a little too perfectly warm if you ask some of us. But since we only have to endure a few of these very hot, too hot, hot, hot, hot days here in the Pacific Northwest, we who believe 75 degrees should be the temperature cap everywhere in the world will try to muffle our whimpering. Let's get straight to the Zuppa Toscana. I know a lot of you are waiting for it (because I'm getting emails telling me so). ... continue reading...
When You Absolutely, Positively, Have to Have Turkey Pot Pie
So I made turkey stock this week. A LOT of turkey stock. My goal had been to make a big batch of turkey noodle soup. But then I saw a bag of peas in the freezer ... and the soup turned into pot pie. This isn't really a post about how to make turkey pot pie. This is a post about stubbornness. Because from the moment I started till the moment I finished, it was just one obstacle after the other. Here's the list as I remember it: --I gave my last white onion away and had only red on hand --No ... continue reading...
Oh-So-Lemony Bundt Cake
I have never met a lemon I didn't like. When I was in my early teens, I came up with my first food-related invention: lemony V8 juice. It was a pretty simple recipe: one part lemon juice to three parts V8, topped with a big sprinkling of pepper. That's a lot of lemon juice, when you think about it. But it was only the beginning. I soon figured out how to make lemon bars, lemon-blueberry bread, lemon meringue, and Shaker lemon pie. That was followed by lemon curd, lemonade made with actual ... continue reading...
