Ah, Tahoe. What's not to love about towering Ponderosa pine trees, a crunchy carpet of needles and Paul Bunyan-esque pinecones, a blue sky, and an emerald lake? Add to that a second-story balcony in a condo we were offered for free, and two weeks to dream, read, pray, think and sleep ... now that's a vacation. Of course I brought my crock pot. That's what I do. Call me cheap, but I just can't bear to eat out all day long when I know how easy it is (and how much more affordable) to just pop ... continue reading...

Spiced Pumpkin Bars
I had written all but the recipe by Sunday night, but then Monday and Tuesday we were down at the Pacific Northwest Pastors Conference all day, and this morning, I taught a writing class at the Bible College at Calvary Fellowship. I couldn't get back to it until now. So just tell yourself it's still Sunday when you read "this morning" and "today." :D What a perfectly wonderful Sunday we had! It was flawless in every way. First of all, I came flying over the last hill on my way to church this ... continue reading...
Mossyback Farm
On this gray, chilly day (yay, yay, yay!), with fall just days away, I thought I'd take a moment to look back at the summer of 2012. I think I took about 1600 pictures this summer, so choosing a few to highlight will be difficult. This might have to be two posts. I'll just devote this first one to the morning I spent at Mossyback Farm, my very favorite farmer's market about 20 minutes north of my house. When you're trying to eat clean, you start spending a lot of time at farmer's markets. I can ... continue reading...
Banilla Bliss
I'm supposed to be on the strictest of diets. I say "supposed to be" because I'm there about 80% of the time. But then we get invited to someone's house for dinner, or we're out all day and discover we're starving and there's nothing good in sight, or I'm teaching Tera how to make brownies and, well, you don't want me to send her brownies to church un-taste-tested, do you? In an effort to discover why my body is in a constant state of inflammation, I'm attempting an elimination diet. To that ... continue reading...
“Let’s See What We Have” Soup
I'm a pretty gigantic fan of "poking around." Do you know how many spectacular things have happened in the name of "poking around?" No? Well, when you have an exact number, please come back and tell me. :D All I know is that a bunch of our favorite meals have occurred in the name of "poking around." This was such a case. During our recent cold snap here in the Northwest ... otherwise known as June ... I got a hankering for soup. But the soup I planned to make required a bunch of ingredients ... continue reading...
Crab Cakes and Wasabi Mayonnaise
It's official. I've ruined Dave. Apparently, all those hours of listening to Food Networks' "Chopped" in the background has seeped into his being. How else would you account for what he said when I served him dinner tonight? "That was great ... and the plating, too." I don't know if I should feel elated or ashamed. Tonight's dinner was Crab Cakes and Wasabi Mayonnaise. The crab was acquired on a trip to the Oregon coast last month. Driving back through South ... South Something, you know, that ... continue reading...
