I'm off to a wedding today. More to the point, I'm off to help shoot a wedding today. A very last minute, very unexpected opportunity came my way when my friend, Bobby Griffin, (who is the real photographer of this shindig) called last night and asked if I'd fill in for his second photographer. He said my day of assisting/apprenticing would involve crawling on the floor and climbing chairs, and trips to a local park and an underpass for some outdoor shots after the ceremony. Should be lots of ... continue reading...

Gage’s Hat … and Some Crackers
Oh, I could not WAIT for Gage to get big enough to wear this hat! I just knew, the whole time I was knitting away, that he would look this adorable in it. The Master Charles Cabled Ear Flap Cap can be found at Knit Picks. The kit comes with Gloss HW Yarn, which I love. It feels so nice in your hands and knits up just as soft as can be. I deviated a little from the pattern. It directed you to pick up stitches all the way around the completed cap and then knit a few rows from there. I ... continue reading...
Restaurant Review: Gayle’s Bakery & Rosticceria ~ Capitola, CA
I'm home from my second trip to California this month -- this time to Oakland/Capitola. I love traveling, but I really miss my kitchen when I'm away. Usually by about Day 2 of my trip, I've already got a good list going of all the things I want to make when I get home. My list today includes Chicken Diavolo and Polenta Casserole (both of which I had -- and then had again -- at Gayle's Bakery in Capitola with my friend, Sherri Youngward. In fact, I'm pretty sure we set a record for most trips to ... continue reading...
Hannah Overton Part 7: Emma
The final post in a series I wrote after meeting Hannah Overton's church and family. If you have not already done so, please consider writing a letter to the governor of Texas asking for clemency for Hannah. Details can be found on this Facebook page. Part 1: Staring at Walls Part 2: Quorum Part 3: Chains Part 4: Locusts Part 5: Pain and Loss Part 6: The Bride Emma wouldn't let me hold her, at first. She let me stare at her. She smiled for this picture. She even tolerated the touch ... continue reading...
Hannah Overton Part 4: Locusts
Part four of a seven-part series on my visit to Calvary Chapel of the Coastlands, Hannah Overton's home church. When I first wrote this, back when I went to Corpus Christi and met her family, she'd already missed so many moments with them. Three more years have passed since then. Please keep praying. Part 1: Staring at Walls Part 2: Quorum Part 3: Chains After the first session, I came back to my room and found this picture waiting for me in my inbox. My cousin, Tracy Willms, had sent ... continue reading...
Stained Glass Jigglers
Okay ... so I was just waiting for an excuse to make these. And I'm going to tell you right up front: they're more beautiful than delicious. But people mostly ignore the odd blandness of Jello in favor of the fun. So you'll get away with these just fine. Easter provided me with the excuse I needed. We spent the afternoon with some of our favorite people -- the Griffins (our hosts), the Welches, the Johnsons, and the Ovesons. Needing to bring a "finger food," I opted for these Jigglers and a ... continue reading...
